Planning Your Trip

Travel to Beaune or Bouilland
For the best chance of a direct flight from the US, you will need to book a plane to Paris, Charles de Gaulle Airport. Take a taxi or RER train Line B (changing at Gare du Nord) to Gare de Lyon from where you can get a TGV (high-speed train) to Dijon or Beaune. The TGV takes about 1h 45minutes (prices vary depending on the time of day). There is one TGV a day which goes direct to Dijon from the airport in the evening. This saves the considerable headache of getting into central Paris (which can take anything from 45 minutes to an hour or two) but is not always convenient time wise. We can arrange transport from Dijon or Beaune to your hotel.

Average temperatures
While it is impossible to predict Burgundy’s weather with any accuracy, here is a site that will give you some details of annual average temperatures and rainfall – World Weather Online

Clothing
We are very informal and the vines are not offended by muddy jeans, being quite used to them. We advise guests to keep it practical: sneakers or boots for the domaine visits, a sweater for the cellars even in summer (sunscreen?). For the evenings, wear whatever makes you comfortable.

Restaurants
We will be happy to advise you about restaurants in the area.

Reading list
We are sometimes asked by the studious for a pre-symposia reading list. Here are our recommendations:

  • Inside Burgundy, by Jasper Morris (available through Berry Brothers & Rudd)
  • Allen Meadow's website: Burghound.com
  • Ola Bergman's website: Bergman's Bourgogne – Appetite for Burgundy
